While on the Road / Re: THINGS NOT TO DO ON A CYCLE TOUR
« on: January 18, 2012, 04:55:02 PM »
There are many things that can go wrong.  Some include the typical as bike issues, but I worry more about health issues, especially when riding outside the US.  What kind of precautions do you guys take to acquire health care in the event of a major issue? Has anyone used atlas international insurance?

While on the Road / Re: Bicycle Touring and Knee Pain

Getting an injury while on a tour has always been a fear of mine. What extra precautions do you guys take when on the road.  I have been looking into travel insurance.  My vacations tend to be all about riding outside of the country. Has anyone used atlas travel insurance?  Thoughts?

I hate to bump this thread, but I am need of shipping some bikes back home.  I had never thought of using this method.  In general, how long does it take?  It seems like it might be weeks before the cargo could arrive?  Also, I am thinking about having it shipped once arriving at the port.  Can anyone recommend any company?

Camping Equipment / Re: Do I really need a water filter?

I definitely think that you should take the filter.  If you have read about the effects on the people who drink the water from the Ganges, you will filter every drop that you drink.  Even if it appears that the water is fine, I would make sure to filter it.  The risk is too high that you get sick or have long lasting effects from dirty water.  Even at home, I make sure my refrigerator filter is changed regularly.  Dirty or chemical saturated water is no good for anyone!
