Buying new wheels
« on: August 05, 2011, 07:11:51 AM »
Hi, im currently in Estonia just after having my front wheel stolen and the back wheel pretty much destroyed. Just wondering what to do since the bike shops here only have very basic wheels. Ive looked at a few sites for  wheels made to order and sent over here, What should I be looking for with since ive still have a long way to go still and the roads are going to get shitter.
Thanks in advance Andy

Andy, If you are looking for suggestions as to what brand to choose, I would recommend Sun Rhyno, Rigida, or Mavic. As it was mentionned before, the most durable touring rim is probably the Sun Rhyno ATB: http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/sun-rhyno-26-(559)-atb-alloy-rim-black-36-hole-prod7028/?sessionid=9c0d8930472fc3f0ff900606ecc8b44e4245b1a7 It is heavy, expensive but extremely durable. I have a friend going on his 7th year on the road using the same rim. I am currently using it for my rear wheel and i already did 12,000 miles with it and it doesn't show any signs of wear yet (I travel light though). And by the way, SJS ships outside the UK.
