Canopy and Net Tent by Bear Paw Tents
« on: April 13, 2010, 08:10:34 PM »
My wife and I are going on a 3-week tour  this summer throughout the Northwest.  We just purchased a canopy tent with a net bug tent by Bear Paw Tents (http://www.bearpawtents.com/ ).  See pictures below.  We are very satisfied with the arrangement, space, size and weight for our trip.  Has anybody else used this arrangement  or tent brand for any of your trips?  It looks like it will work for us and the quality looks good enough.  We don't want to get in the middle of our tour and wish that we had chosen a different type of tent arrangement.  We have used just a tarp in the past, but we wanted something more like a tent this time.

I never used those, but they certainly look good if you are really trying to save on weight. I would not use them on an extended tour or under real rough conditions, but it looks like a good and affordable option for shorter trips. It looks like you will need to carry a trekking pole, which will add some weight, and trekking poles are quite useless on a bicycle tour, unless you are doing some hiking in between days of riding (then it is very useful)... or if you plan on riding in areas with a lot of nasty dogs!  ;D

I would be happy to hear some feedback once you have tried it out, so let us know how it worked out for you...

For the poles, they made us two shock-corded Easton poles.  Total weight for the poles only 3oz.

Similar weight and money puts you in this.  'bout $40 more, and a couple ounces.
